What's your mindset? If it's not the millionaire mindset, it's time for a change!It’s amazing how often this comes up in conversation and is something that, for some reason, still amazes me when people look at me crazy when I say this: ‘If you are still thinking in dollars and cents – not in time, STOP!

If you are still thinking in terms of dollars and cents, you are stuck in a mindset that is limiting. Do you think the wealthy think of things in terms of money? The answer is no, they don’t think of things in terms of how much something costs or in terms of dollars and cents. The “Millionaire Mindset” is concerned with how much time it’s going to take, not money. Now for some people, having a few dollars is all they have but they aren’t thinking of it in terms of “you only have those pieces of paper or 1s and 0s in the bank until someone else takes them.”

Money can come and go, but time is THE ONLY commodity on this planet that you can never get more of.

Do you want me to show you how the mindset issue is even more important to your everyday life than a vague concept? Think of this – how often do you see and attend networking events that are free? You say to yourself “Hey, if it’s free – count me in.” right? Is it really free? Are you not spending time at that event? If the same freebie seekers are at the event and are there because it’s free, would they be really wanting to work with you and refer clients that want to work with you or are all of those people going to be looking at you as though you have two heads because you’re asking them to pay you for what you do?

I’m not saying that all free networking events are bad – far from it. I’ve gone to many events that didn’t have a monetary fee for me to go to, but I also go to any event with a certain goal and mindset that I want X, Y or Z from that particular event and make it my mission to get that. For example, I was recently at a women’s executive breakfast program where I met three women with whom I now have a deeper and greater relationship than before I was there – and I didn’t know any of those three women before! One woman, in particular, is having me as a guest on an upcoming episode of her podcast where her listeners are my ideal prospects! Another woman is looking to be a joint venture partner with me. For the three hours I invested in that breakfast program, I got my value.

To be honest, I’ve gone to some paid events too where the value from the event was not there – I got more value for my position as Vice President of my Chamber of Commerce for possible membership than I did for my business. The key takeaway is that if your IDEAL prospects (otherwise known as an ‘avatar) and their network are not there, it doesn’t matter how much the program costs. It’s the same with your marketing message – wrong audience, wrong offer, wrong time is going to produce zero results!

Let’s look at another example – how often do you say that you’ll do things on your own instead of investing in a professional’s help in getting something done? For some things, you can certainly do them on your own – and sometimes you HAVE to do them yourself because they are that critical to your business that having anyone else do that particular task/project would not be done with the same care and need that you have.

If you don’t know how to design and operate a website, for example, why start learning it, figuring it out and testing while you waste valuable hours that could have been spent on doing what you do?

If you don’t know how to market your business properly to get in front of the right people, why do you still keep throwing money at Facebook, Google and media ad sales reps that are there for one purpose: take your money? These companies are not vested in your success – if they were they’d be telling you your ad could be better doing A, B or C. By keeping your ads and the results they deliver for you mediocre like for their other clients, they’re ensuring you’re constantly paying them because you need to try something new and trying out more options with greater ad spend!

Here’s another one that some of my clients have done before working with me: they asked their broke friends and family members for business advice. If they’re broke, why is anyone asking them for business advice???

Why not work with professionals that actually understand how to do what they do so you don’t waste your time? It may take you one hour, month, a year or 10-years to learn something, but in this time it took you, you could have been generating revenues for your business – not wasting time learning something!
