00:00:01.370 –> 00:00:06.590
Jennifer Glass: Hello and welcome to another episode of MOJO: The Meaning of Life and Business.

2
00:00:07.920 –> 00:00:09.640
Jennifer Glass: A lot of people

3
00:00:09.790 –> 00:00:20.160
start talking about the idea of work life balance. I like calling it actually a work life integration because it’s not just the balance.

4
00:00:20.310 –> 00:00:30.760
Jennifer Glass: We need to integrate the 2. But there’s a lot of different pieces that are involved when we’re talking about what is involved in finding that ideal balance.

5
00:00:30.900 –> 00:00:37.000
Jennifer Glass: Some people like looking at it as okay. I’m: going to do this

6
00:00:37.030 –> 00:00:42.160
for a couple of hours, and I’m going to do that for a couple of hours. Wash and repeat.

7
00:00:43.170 –> 00:00:51.180
Jennifer Glass: Other people have a completely different look. They run really hard, really fast, really long.

8
00:00:51.190 –> 00:00:53.080
until they eventually crash.

9
00:00:54.090 –> 00:01:05.330
Jennifer Glass: I have a great guest on the show today. Who’s gonna help us break down? How to do this better. and how to make our own lives that much easier

10
00:01:05.480 –> 00:01:20.780
Jennifer Glass: and more fulfilling when we have this conversation. But before I bring him on, let me tell you a little bit about him. Shannon Shriver is a leader and successful participant in many arenas.

11
00:01:21.440 –> 00:01:32.080
Jennifer Glass: In his community. He could be best described as a man that loves to encourage and build people up his coaching. An example has led many to success or increase success.

12
00:01:32.360 –> 00:01:34.630
Jennifer Glass: Shannon, Welcome to the show.

13
00:01:34.990 –> 00:01:41.470
Shannon Shriver CDO: Well, good afternoon. You ever this, Shannon, and I’m so glad to be on your show and look forward to discussion.

14
00:01:42.270 –> 00:01:55.080
Jennifer Glass: Absolutely. Yes, thank you. So, Shannon, let me ask you, when we talk about what you have done in terms of being a leader in your community.

15
00:01:55.270 –> 00:01:57.460
Jennifer Glass: Tell me more about that first, please.

16
00:01:57.910 –> 00:02:01.910
Well, if I put it all together, I have been a pig farmer.

17
00:02:02.460 –> 00:02:11.890
Shannon Shriver CDO: a high school basketball, coach. and insurance sales, but an insurance trainer. Only my own business now.

18
00:02:11.900 –> 00:02:15.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: and I look at all that. Say, do I really know what I’m doing?

19
00:02:16.980 –> 00:02:22.760
Shannon Shriver CDO: Well, when it comes down to the core? I’m on earth here today to encourage and build people up.

20
00:02:23.030 –> 00:02:29.900
Shannon Shriver CDO: I don’t know how that fit into the pig farming other than my dad taught me how to work hard and working hard

21
00:02:30.040 –> 00:02:31.900
Shannon Shriver CDO: would benefit in the

22
00:02:32.780 –> 00:02:47.380
Shannon Shriver CDO: So whether it be through the high school years or through the high school coaching, and then being with the insurance financial services and work with people today in in a local area and virtual area.

23
00:02:47.410 –> 00:02:56.050
Shannon Shriver CDO: My goal and my giddy up every day is, hey? I’m going to see who I can encourage. and not only just encourage to build them up

24
00:02:56.680 –> 00:03:01.890
Shannon Shriver CDO: because I want to leave them as a better person by interchanging or interacting with me.

25
00:03:04.580 –> 00:03:11.780
Jennifer Glass: Thank you. So let’s talk about the pig farming, for example, because we don’t get a lot of pig farmers that we get to speak to.

26
00:03:12.230 –> 00:03:21.700
Jennifer Glass: So I know that that was a family business. But tell me more in terms of the pig farming and some of the lessons that taught you other than work hard.

27
00:03:21.740 –> 00:03:30.570
Shannon Shriver CDO: Okay? Well, my my father was a a graduate in high school. The next day he was in Boot Camp for World War. Ii

28
00:03:30.810 –> 00:03:41.840
Shannon Shriver CDO: went over there and did his time in the swift outs, came back and started our family. And yes, it was a family business, and everybody, you know.

29
00:03:41.910 –> 00:03:56.510
Shannon Shriver CDO: had their things d0 0n the farm sort of pig farming, even though we had cows and horses grains. I was sort of a charge of the pig side of the production and we got into pretty large production at time.

30
00:03:56.530 –> 00:04:01.180
Really, it came down to in 1,976.

31
00:04:01.230 –> 00:04:04.990
Shannon Shriver CDO: He my father, was shocked by lightning, talking on the phone.

32
00:04:05.860 –> 00:04:08.050
Shannon Shriver CDO: and it.

33
00:04:08.380 –> 00:04:11.670
Shannon Shriver CDO: I was 9. My brother was 11,

34
00:04:12.780 –> 00:04:16.180
Shannon Shriver CDO: and we are running the farm by ourself.

35
00:04:16.850 –> 00:04:27.120
Shannon Shriver CDO: They had meaningful issues. His Brett is is. He was sitting in a metal chair, so his back was branded. He he destroyed one of his ear lobes

36
00:04:27.140 –> 00:04:33.380
Shannon Shriver CDO: in that sort of put him out of the commission. And so it was like, okay, we were ready for this.

37
00:04:33.520 –> 00:04:42.370
Shannon Shriver CDO: But let’s go. and I think the lessons I learned with teamwork. you know everyone with dad out had to pick out slack.

38
00:04:42.590 –> 00:04:48.170
Shannon Shriver CDO: and here’s a nine-year-old and 11 year old sleeping on top of the big crates

39
00:04:48.830 –> 00:04:52.070
Shannon Shriver CDO: waiting to hear a mother pick giving birth.

40
00:04:52.220 –> 00:04:55.680
Shannon Shriver CDO: We wake up. We’d be the the big doctor.

41
00:04:55.820 –> 00:05:03.670
Shannon Shriver CDO: Give them what they needed, make sure everything was everyone as well, and see if we go back on top of the crane. Sleep a little bit more before we had to run school

42
00:05:03.900 –> 00:05:05.990
Shannon Shriver CDO: and carry on our normal lives.

43
00:05:09.770 –> 00:05:20.560
Jennifer Glass: That’s pretty interesting in terms of looking at it in that regard I mean, first of all, at least, your dad wasn’t killed in the lightning strike.

44
00:05:20.810 –> 00:05:32.490
Jennifer Glass: So thank God for small favors in that regard. but learning how to take care of the pig, learning how to deal with All of that that was on the farm

45
00:05:32.540 –> 00:05:35.630
is certainly a really big issue, and

46
00:05:36.690 –> 00:05:39.960
Jennifer Glass: life lessons like you said that you weren’t

47
00:05:40.020 –> 00:05:49.460
in terms of what you needed to do all before you needed to run off and go to school to learn your reading math and writing

48
00:05:51.840 –> 00:06:03.150
Jennifer Glass: definitely interesting. So let me ask you, let’s fast forward a number of years. So now you’re out of school. You are doing insurance. You are doing

49
00:06:03.160 –> 00:06:10.620
this and that in terms of what you were doing. What were some of those lessons that you picked up along the way.

50
00:06:10.740 –> 00:06:17.440
Jennifer Glass: And how did that ultimately help you and learning how to live a more balanced life?

51
00:06:17.720 –> 00:06:18.550
Okay.

52
00:06:19.620 –> 00:06:26.460
Shannon Shriver CDO: Probably the first one comes. My mind is, People are more important than things. I think every one

53
00:06:26.540 –> 00:06:31.170
Shannon Shriver CDO: and I know a parent of 4. We all want our kids to do better than we did.

54
00:06:31.870 –> 00:06:35.390
Shannon Shriver CDO: and we, as children, want to do better than our parents did.

55
00:06:35.590 –> 00:06:43.660
Shannon Shriver CDO: and therefore it is t00 0ften tied to money. objects, cars, phones, and those things are all nice.

56
00:06:44.430 –> 00:06:48.640
Shannon Shriver CDO: but it’s that people are more important. Then. Thanks.

57
00:06:48.890 –> 00:06:56.720
Shannon Shriver CDO: My dad is little. The education he had, he always said, spend little you can on things into appreciate.

58
00:06:57.530 –> 00:07:00.610
Shannon Shriver CDO: and as much as you can on things that I appreciate.

59
00:07:02.060 –> 00:07:08.290
Shannon Shriver CDO: And he and and Mom lived an example that Dad passed away. 3 0r 4 years ago. He was 94.

60
00:07:08.380 –> 00:07:15.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: Mom was 4 years younger. I thought they were fighting and arguing to see who would live the longest

61
00:07:15.960 –> 00:07:17.430
Shannon Shriver CDO: and Dad lost.

62
00:07:17.560 –> 00:07:26.880
Shannon Shriver CDO: Mom is now 94, almost 95, and I think the only reason she’s still here on earth is that she can make 95 until then each she beat him again.

63
00:07:26.900 –> 00:07:30.180
Shannon Shriver CDO: People are very important.

64
00:07:32.210 –> 00:07:39.450
Shannon Shriver CDO: When I set my yearly goals when I set my weekly goals. my first thought is.

65
00:07:39.580 –> 00:07:48.980
Shannon Shriver CDO: what kind of person am I going to be? And what kind of people I I’m. I’m. A little analytical recovering analytical, I would say.

66
00:07:49.260 –> 00:08:00.240
Shannon Shriver CDO: But every week I have about 10 categories. It’s me as a person. and ray myself. How good was I as a husband? How good was I as a father, a grandfather.

67
00:08:00.430 –> 00:08:04.490
Shannon Shriver CDO: a servant an influencer. Each one of my jobs You’ll

68
00:08:04.500 –> 00:08:09.630
Shannon Shriver CDO: was I the best I can be. I don’t always get a chance, or do I ever get tense?

69
00:08:10.030 –> 00:08:11.540
Shannon Shriver CDO: But the key is

70
00:08:12.080 –> 00:08:15.080
Shannon Shriver CDO: the people, me as a person first.

71
00:08:15.140 –> 00:08:25.300
Shannon Shriver CDO: and then the people that i’m going to serve that week. How can I show up for them. because each one of those grades that I give myself one t0 10.

72
00:08:25.850 –> 00:08:29.350
Shannon Shriver CDO: If I get a 7, what can I do this week

73
00:08:29.440 –> 00:08:34.260
Shannon Shriver CDO: to provide them to an 8 0r to a 9,

74
00:08:37.909 –> 00:08:49.450
Jennifer Glass: Absolutely. And I I love the story of your mom in that race with your dad just to say, is he gonna beat you again. That’s that’s incredible. So.

75
00:08:49.610 –> 00:08:52.140
Shannon, if we’re looking at

76
00:08:52.210 –> 00:08:58.050
Jennifer Glass: being the best that we can be like you said, Are you a 7 this week. Can you be 8 next week?

77
00:08:58.360 –> 00:09:12.550
Jennifer Glass: That is definitely, really important in terms of how we can look at it in that perspective we can say we’re trying to be the best version of ourselves. We know that we need to be

78
00:09:13.310 –> 00:09:25.480
Jennifer Glass: better here. We need to be doing that, whatever it is that we need to be figuring out from there as we look, though at work, life balance, as you call it.

79
00:09:25.920 –> 00:09:28.620
or as a lot of people call it.

80
00:09:28.660 –> 00:09:37.300
Jennifer Glass: Let’s talk about that. Because, like I said in the introduction, there is a lot there that we can get bogged down with

81
00:09:37.470 –> 00:09:38.690
right? I mean

82
00:09:38.850 –> 00:09:54.400
Jennifer Glass: it doesn’t matter if you’re trying to be 7 8 9 in terms of what you’re doing. Maybe it’ll say this week. I have to make sure. I at least give a chance to go to my son’s baseball game, or my daughter’s dance, recital, or whatever. Just that I can get that extra point.

83
00:09:54.780 –> 00:10:07.200
Jennifer Glass: you know, and kind of game of 5, the story. But is it really those setting that balance? Or is it more? Again, it’s another work thing that i’m just working at doing.

84
00:10:08.010 –> 00:10:12.880
Shannon Shriver CDO: It is something you have to work at, and I don’t know if you ever get the mark.

85
00:10:14.480 –> 00:10:18.610
Shannon Shriver CDO: I think the key is you’ve got to know what your poor values are.

86
00:10:19.690 –> 00:10:25.920
Shannon Shriver CDO: and when something comes into your world. don’t allow them to make you off balance.

87
00:10:26.000 –> 00:10:37.520
Shannon Shriver CDO: But it comes back to you. Use the word integration, I heard people say, hey, there’s not such a thing as word like balance, because it’s not 50% at work and 50% not at work.

88
00:10:38.940 –> 00:10:48.320
Shannon Shriver CDO: You can do a lot of work and be involved. I think the key is the people that are important to you. letting them know when you are unavailable.

89
00:10:49.530 –> 00:10:54.090
Shannon Shriver CDO: My wife knows that this certain part of the day

90
00:10:55.320 –> 00:11:00.260
Shannon Shriver CDO: I don’t even want to talk to Shan because he’s not going to be able to do anything for me because

91
00:11:00.280 –> 00:11:07.600
Shannon Shriver CDO: he’s pretty occupied with his work. But then there’s also this definite times, especially scheduled at the end of the week.

92
00:11:07.610 –> 00:11:10.110
Shannon Shriver CDO: Hey, we’re going to do this.

93
00:11:10.920 –> 00:11:13.810
Shannon Shriver CDO: and she knows nothing except

94
00:11:14.460 –> 00:11:18.180
Shannon Shriver CDO: the collapse of my business or the death of a loved one.

95
00:11:18.490 –> 00:11:20.470
Shannon Shriver CDO: is going to take that time away from her.

96
00:11:22.100 –> 00:11:29.430
Shannon Shriver CDO: and she knows, hey. I know I got Shannon at this time. and I think that’s key with

97
00:11:30.640 –> 00:11:33.580
Shannon Shriver CDO: working, not only with with your spouse, with your children.

98
00:11:33.680 –> 00:11:38.320
Shannon Shriver CDO: My children are all adult children, so they don’t need as much of my time.

99
00:11:39.120 –> 00:11:45.790
Shannon Shriver CDO: but I scheduled time to be with them. Just be there for them. And now with grandchildren

100
00:11:46.600 –> 00:11:48.380
Shannon Shriver CDO: Yes, hey.

101
00:11:48.930 –> 00:11:51.770
Shannon Shriver CDO: which grandparents can take me to school

102
00:11:52.380 –> 00:11:56.200
Shannon Shriver CDO: because one of their parents are not able to.

103
00:11:56.590 –> 00:11:58.320
Shannon Shriver CDO: I get to be my lucky guy.

104
00:11:58.660 –> 00:12:08.200
Shannon Shriver CDO: I get to be the one that doesn’t have to go to a 9 t0 5 job. and I can go spend the night and make sure they’re up. They’ve got your breakfast. Their hair phone. The teeth rushed

105
00:12:08.590 –> 00:12:13.640
Shannon Shriver CDO: and onto the schools we go. but I think the balance is realizing

106
00:12:15.500 –> 00:12:18.940
Shannon Shriver CDO: i’m not the first step person that can turn the switch on or off.

107
00:12:20.190 –> 00:12:22.040
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’ve got no ahead of time.

108
00:12:22.180 –> 00:12:27.130
Shannon Shriver CDO: hey? This time. I’m going to go at this time is family. This time is 5

109
00:12:27.190 –> 00:12:33.090
Shannon Shriver CDO: self- pleasure, and this time it is focus on moving a needle and making the money

110
00:12:37.180 –> 00:12:45.880
Jennifer Glass: absolutely and it’s great that You’ve got that luxury in terms of being grandpa that can take the kids to school.

111
00:12:45.920 –> 00:12:59.560
Jennifer Glass: and that your wife knows when she’s got Shannon time, and when Shannon is not in that position to be doing something. So let me ask, though, if we’re looking at

112
00:13:00.930 –> 00:13:03.240
Jennifer Glass: a transferable skill, if you will.

113
00:13:03.320 –> 00:13:16.490
getting this set up. So some of us are lucky enough that we’ve got understanding spouses and kids that understand that we’ve got to be at work during this hour

114
00:13:16.680 –> 00:13:27.970
Jennifer Glass: and other times we don’t exactly have the same luxury. Is there anything you can say, though, to the person who is struggling with balance

115
00:13:28.450 –> 00:13:36.170
Shannon Shriver CDO: that can give them a little more clarity in what they can do to start. At least.

116
00:13:38.440 –> 00:13:39.990
Shannon Shriver CDO: I think

117
00:13:41.020 –> 00:13:45.480
Shannon Shriver CDO: it all begins with communication with those individuals

118
00:13:45.650 –> 00:13:51.000
as far as spouses or significant. Others or people are involved.

119
00:13:52.680 –> 00:13:57.780
Shannon Shriver CDO: You know. I I believe the the 5 love languages. I know what I know. I know what my wife’s are.

120
00:13:57.870 –> 00:14:03.650
Shannon Shriver CDO: It’s amazing, taking out the trash can make her the happiest person in all the world

121
00:14:03.940 –> 00:14:08.210
Shannon Shriver CDO: versus jewelry. But if I know that, and I communicate

122
00:14:08.560 –> 00:14:14.070
Shannon Shriver CDO: what I expect to you. Start not so much. Let me tell you. What I gotta do is for a

123
00:14:14.330 –> 00:14:15.830
Shannon Shriver CDO: what is your week like?

124
00:14:16.900 –> 00:14:24.500
Shannon Shriver CDO: What’s the most important thing I know she’s got a presentation this Thursday that’s going to make her as nervous as all get out.

125
00:14:25.750 –> 00:14:37.140
Shannon Shriver CDO: Well, that means on Wednesday evening she’s gonna show special time for my wife. so it fills her cup and helps her understand. They are

126
00:14:38.290 –> 00:14:45.000
Shannon Shriver CDO: Everything’s going to be okay. and she’s going to be a phenomenal. She’s a change agent of her work.

127
00:14:45.360 –> 00:14:47.840
the She. Then the practical step, is

128
00:14:48.190 –> 00:14:53.090
Shannon Shriver CDO: making sure there’s communication up front. Then I think the other step would be.

129
00:14:54.320 –> 00:14:55.900
Shannon Shriver CDO: Try something new.

130
00:14:59.020 –> 00:15:14.490
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’m not saying I am the world’s greatest husband. even though I am a hall of fame, husband. and let me explain. My first marriage did not last matter of fact, I don’t know if you can even find it in the ashes anymore.

131
00:15:14.780 –> 00:15:16.820
Shannon Shriver CDO: I miserably struck out.

132
00:15:18.730 –> 00:15:29.010
Shannon Shriver CDO: but after that experience I realized I need to know what the what I need to learn to be a better man about her husband, a better person, and I hit a home run with the sad one.

133
00:15:29.320 –> 00:15:33.530
Shannon Shriver CDO: so i’m back 500, and I don’t want another attempt at this. I

134
00:15:33.560 –> 00:15:39.450
Shannon Shriver CDO: This is this is my last Mary, as far as i’m concerned but that 500 I should be in the whole thing.

135
00:15:40.360 –> 00:15:44.860
But I should learn from the mistakes or the the experiences I have

136
00:15:44.940 –> 00:15:49.370
Shannon Shriver CDO: to do something. I don’t want to be so

137
00:15:50.900 –> 00:15:56.100
Shannon Shriver CDO: to routine that my wife thinks she knows everything about the

138
00:15:57.860 –> 00:16:04.030
Shannon Shriver CDO: I want some variety of life. We we are complete opposites.

139
00:16:05.300 –> 00:16:14.630
Shannon Shriver CDO: and I say that because we don’t, we have a we have our core values in common. but we are completely, I mean, i’m, coming from the state of Alabama.

140
00:16:14.660 –> 00:16:17.710
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’m an auburn fan. She’s an Alabama fan. Right?

141
00:16:17.910 –> 00:16:20.030
Please not feel sorry about her right.

142
00:16:20.060 –> 00:16:22.220
Shannon Shriver CDO: so they’ve been pretty successful.

143
00:16:23.150 –> 00:16:30.950
Shannon Shriver CDO: but we realized that we need time to spend. I think the step would be. Bring a little variety of your life.

144
00:16:32.180 –> 00:16:42.270
Shannon Shriver CDO: Let that significant other, that spouse, maybe even a family member, maybe a child. Get them involved with the activities that include your work.

145
00:16:43.160 –> 00:16:46.390
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’m a big proponent of a

146
00:16:46.460 –> 00:16:48.150
Shannon Shriver CDO: taking your child to work.

147
00:16:49.700 –> 00:16:52.540
Shannon Shriver CDO: Why? Because they don’t know what to experience.

148
00:16:53.030 –> 00:17:04.130
Shannon Shriver CDO: I was an educator for 14 years when my daughter was 9, she said, Daddy, i’m going to go shit shadow a teacher. I think I want to be a teacher. I said. That’d be great. You’re just very a rich husband.

149
00:17:04.329 –> 00:17:10.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: because the teachers are not getting paid what they are deserving. but the key is getting them involved.

150
00:17:11.369 –> 00:17:13.579
Shannon Shriver CDO: and I think it does have the

151
00:17:13.829 –> 00:17:18.079
Shannon Shriver CDO: largely allowed try something new.

152
00:17:18.210 –> 00:17:27.130
Shannon Shriver CDO: Pete Barg is a is a good Mentor for me, and that, hey? Let’s try something. Then review it and see if we learn something from it.

153
00:17:27.440 –> 00:17:31.670
Shannon Shriver CDO: There’s things I’ve tried and said, oh, i’ll never try that again with my spouse.

154
00:17:33.060 –> 00:17:35.650
Shannon Shriver CDO: Oh, that word note to self.

155
00:17:36.720 –> 00:17:38.570
Shannon Shriver CDO: and I think the key is.

156
00:17:39.580 –> 00:17:42.580
Shannon Shriver CDO: if we’ll slow down enough to find an opportunity

157
00:17:43.480 –> 00:17:46.650
Shannon Shriver CDO: to think. What could I do? Different

158
00:17:48.230 –> 00:17:59.840
Shannon Shriver CDO: to help them? And I’ll I’ll finish up with this also. Think about what can I do? Different? My work that might maybe have more time to spend with those that are important to me.

159
00:18:05.410 –> 00:18:16.190
Jennifer Glass: So that’s an interesting segue that I will ask that question to you. What is it that you do to create more time? So you can have that

160
00:18:16.240 –> 00:18:25.180
Jennifer Glass: to be doing more for others in terms of looking at it in the work life balance in terms of looking at it. working within your community, working.

161
00:18:26.200 –> 00:18:30.350
Jennifer Glass: you know, home outside of the home and going from there.

162
00:18:30.620 –> 00:18:31.570
Shannon Shriver CDO: Well.

163
00:18:32.530 –> 00:18:41.140
Shannon Shriver CDO: that’s a great question, and I have 15 answers. I don’t want to use ball. I think the benefit and I and and i’m a fan

164
00:18:41.790 –> 00:18:48.690
Shannon Shriver CDO: of this work from anywhere, environment that we have available. Some people have that luxury. Some do die

165
00:18:48.710 –> 00:18:50.750
if you have it, take advantage of it

166
00:18:51.100 –> 00:18:51.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: to you by.

167
00:18:54.090 –> 00:18:57.680
Shannon Shriver CDO: I don’t drive 30 min, 15 min.

168
00:18:57.750 –> 00:19:01.950
Shannon Shriver CDO: 5 min to work. I wake up, and i’m at work.

169
00:19:03.170 –> 00:19:14.130
Shannon Shriver CDO: Well, that’s 30 min. both ways. That’s an hour by day that I could do something in work or outside of work to keep the ballots

170
00:19:14.920 –> 00:19:16.040
Shannon Shriver CDO: also.

171
00:19:17.090 –> 00:19:19.890
Shannon Shriver CDO: The key of working through this is that

172
00:19:21.100 –> 00:19:30.720
Shannon Shriver CDO: you made the time. you know, if I consider, and i’m just using a hypothetical. if I am making

173
00:19:30.840 –> 00:19:34.000
Shannon Shriver CDO: $50 an hour at my job.

174
00:19:35.090 –> 00:19:49.080
Shannon Shriver CDO: and my job has that many slides of things to do if I can take 2 slides and hire someone for $25 an hour.

175
00:19:50.180 –> 00:19:54.430
Shannon Shriver CDO: Then i’m just freed up $50 a lot of my time that I can be more profitable

176
00:19:56.340 –> 00:19:57.320
Shannon Shriver CDO: why

177
00:19:59.910 –> 00:20:07.870
Shannon Shriver CDO: I should not, even though I enjoy it. I should mow my yard if I can find someone to do it for less than what I charge for my business

178
00:20:10.520 –> 00:20:11.830
Shannon Shriver CDO: unless I want to.

179
00:20:12.950 –> 00:20:19.740
Shannon Shriver CDO: In my marketing to my in my companies I got things that’s so down past the routine’s going

180
00:20:20.050 –> 00:20:24.120
Shannon Shriver CDO: that it’s it’s plug and play it it doesn’t. Take a genius.

181
00:20:24.150 –> 00:20:26.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: but let’s be honest. If it doesn’t get done.

182
00:20:29.180 –> 00:20:30.780
Shannon Shriver CDO: my business fails

183
00:20:31.880 –> 00:20:35.210
Shannon Shriver CDO: once send me spending my $50 an hour to do that.

184
00:20:35.430 –> 00:20:39.930
Shannon Shriver CDO: Why do I hire someone for $12 an hour to copy and paste

185
00:20:42.060 –> 00:20:44.400
Shannon Shriver CDO: the material that I need to do marketing

186
00:20:45.510 –> 00:20:47.180
Shannon Shriver CDO: in a freeze at my time.

187
00:20:48.210 –> 00:20:53.390
Shannon Shriver CDO: because I will pay a $100 an hour to spend with my family

188
00:20:55.550 –> 00:20:58.220
Shannon Shriver CDO: the other element of of of saving time is.

189
00:20:59.930 –> 00:21:02.070
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’m. Not the person that believes.

190
00:21:03.200 –> 00:21:17.990
Shannon Shriver CDO: Then I can multitask d0 2 things once. because the science teaches that they can’t be done. At the same time I can be listening to a podcast and doing other activities

191
00:21:18.360 –> 00:21:19.670
Shannon Shriver CDO: at the same time.

192
00:21:20.250 –> 00:21:26.290
Shannon Shriver CDO: Would I get more out of the podcast if I just stop 2 notes, list and everything. Yes.

193
00:21:27.600 –> 00:21:29.750
Shannon Shriver CDO: but is that podcast worth

194
00:21:30.000 –> 00:21:37.860
Shannon Shriver CDO: that 30 min at 60 min of my time to get that in place. It is my practice. If it’s really good.

195
00:21:38.470 –> 00:21:49.730
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’m going to market. I’m gonna go back when i’m driving down the road, and i’ll listen to it and have more focus to it and accomplish what needs to be done there. The last one I would give you

196
00:21:50.700 –> 00:21:52.750
Shannon Shriver CDO: is, realize everybody’s schedule.

197
00:21:54.210 –> 00:21:55.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: not only your schedule.

198
00:21:56.980 –> 00:22:00.250
Shannon Shriver CDO: but the people you work with what is their schedule.

199
00:22:01.720 –> 00:22:03.590
Shannon Shriver CDO: and what I mean by that is.

200
00:22:05.460 –> 00:22:08.890
Shannon Shriver CDO: I love working now early in the morning.

201
00:22:10.430 –> 00:22:16.860
Shannon Shriver CDO: Now, my wife my I mean there are a lot of examples. She can’t stand warning workouts.

202
00:22:18.190 –> 00:22:21.650
Shannon Shriver CDO: She comes home from work, and then she goes and works out.

203
00:22:21.900 –> 00:22:29.970
Shannon Shriver CDO: I know it’s like soft work. so that I know that I can have an appointment any time during that part of the day.

204
00:22:30.290 –> 00:22:38.410
Shannon Shriver CDO: and we’ve not lost an opportunity to spend time together that can go with your your your wife, your husband, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your children.

205
00:22:38.590 –> 00:22:42.390
Shannon Shriver CDO: if you know what their schedule is, and what their their expectation is.

206
00:22:43.320 –> 00:22:47.230
Shannon Shriver CDO: Then I work around that now, right i’ll I’ll put a a hard

207
00:22:48.040 –> 00:22:56.740
Shannon Shriver CDO: practice that my first thing I schedule in my week. It’s not my word. but mile away from work time.

208
00:22:58.280 –> 00:23:07.200
Shannon Shriver CDO: whether that be family, whether that be a community service, whether that be charity, would that be my workout time. I block all that out. See? Okay?

209
00:23:07.330 –> 00:23:12.060
Shannon Shriver CDO: I’m sorry I got left to get what I need to get done for my businesses

210
00:23:14.310 –> 00:23:18.830
Shannon Shriver CDO: if I can get it done great if I can. Then I got to tweak the system a little bit

211
00:23:22.730 –> 00:23:31.830
Jennifer Glass: absolutely, and it’s important that you make sure that you look at your calendar blocking. but you know exactly what it is that you are doing.

212
00:23:31.940 –> 00:23:39.160
Jennifer Glass: and where you’re going. One of the tips I got from one of my coaches was even the supermarket run.

213
00:23:39.340 –> 00:23:56.420
Jennifer Glass: or the Warehouse Club Run goes in the calendar, too. because that way it becomes something that is an immobile right. Someone else cannot come and demand that time, because no, that is my supermarket time. That is my warehouse club time.

214
00:23:56.540 –> 00:24:08.710
Jennifer Glass: You’re not going to take that because I need to get that done during this hour. Same thing, I say very often, Don’t, let a molehill become a mountain

215
00:24:09.410 –> 00:24:10.920
Jennifer Glass: If you’ve got

216
00:24:12.200 –> 00:24:19.010
Jennifer Glass: doctors appointments that have to be made. Of course, doctors work normal business hours, too, just like we do.

217
00:24:19.020 –> 00:24:21.470
We gotta make those appointments.

218
00:24:21.680 –> 00:24:28.000
Jennifer Glass: If your core needs an oil change, or whatever. Again, the places normally work business hours.

219
00:24:28.040 –> 00:24:29.940
You gotta get that in, too.

220
00:24:30.560 –> 00:24:40.290
Jennifer Glass: If you let that stuff build up, then it can eventually become much more serious in terms of needing a lot more to do and take a lot more time.

221
00:24:40.410 –> 00:24:48.570
Jennifer Glass: So pay attention to those little things in that calendar blocking like you were just mentioning Shannon, so you can go from there.

222
00:24:48.590 –> 00:24:52.030
The other thing I wanted to touch on was the podcast

223
00:24:52.380 –> 00:25:04.610
Jennifer Glass: for any kind of workshop seminar program that you attend. and that is, if you think the first time that you’re listening. listen for the content

224
00:25:04.700 –> 00:25:06.220
of what’s being discussed.

225
00:25:06.950 –> 00:25:13.560
Jennifer Glass: go back and listen again for the context. What is the nuance that’s being shared?

226
00:25:13.630 –> 00:25:18.560
What is the idea that is really there underlying everything?

227
00:25:18.910 –> 00:25:26.210
Jennifer Glass: One of the perfect examples was for me in my speaker training. I went first

228
00:25:26.220 –> 00:25:32.460
to a speaker training program. and I was there learning some of the basics.

229
00:25:32.610 –> 00:25:43.700
Jennifer Glass: When I went back. I caught some of the subliminal ideas that they were doing in the training. and I said, Wow, this just hit me.

230
00:25:43.740 –> 00:25:44.970
I just saw it.

231
00:25:45.170 –> 00:25:50.920
Jennifer Glass: and n0 0ne else in the room caught it because I was one of the only ones that was there both times.

232
00:25:51.030 –> 00:26:08.160
Jennifer Glass: and so I got to notice that, and I got to pick it up. And then I went on an intensive where it was even more reiterated. And so it’ll allow me to really think a little more strategically in that regard. So if you’re listening to a podcast, you can certainly listen to the show.

233
00:26:08.440 –> 00:26:21.620
Jennifer Glass: I do a lot of my podcast while i’m out walking. I love walking, especially when the weather is nice, because I can get outside away from my desk. Freeze up my mind, and I can be listening to a show as i’m walking.

234
00:26:21.650 –> 00:26:36.580
Jennifer Glass: and I can be focused heavily on the show. What is it that they’re talking about? Is it something that I need to really be paying attention to. In which case, like you said, I can go back. I can mark it. I can do things along those lines, so I can get there

235
00:26:36.610 –> 00:26:41.350
Jennifer Glass: and do all of those pieces. So thank you, Shannon, for those tips.

236
00:26:42.270 –> 00:26:44.400
Shannon Shriver CDO: You Very well, I enjoyed it.

237
00:26:45.730 –> 00:26:58.170
Jennifer Glass: Thank you. So, Shannon, let me ask you, what is it that makes you get up every morning? I mean, we spoke about a whole lot of things that you do. But what is it that really makes you tick

238
00:26:59.080 –> 00:27:00.680
Shannon Shriver CDO: interacting with people?

239
00:27:01.890 –> 00:27:02.680
Shannon Shriver CDO: If

240
00:27:03.200 –> 00:27:09.880
Shannon Shriver CDO: if I cannot interact in Covid caused me a lot of problems, all right, not bad problems, but it’s like

241
00:27:10.080 –> 00:27:13.410
I can’t go where I can’t see anyone.

242
00:27:13.880 –> 00:27:18.480
Shannon Shriver CDO: I right. I’ll go ride my bike, and over the first 6 months of Covid. I lost £50

243
00:27:18.740 –> 00:27:20.280
because

244
00:27:20.300 –> 00:27:29.550
Shannon Shriver CDO: n0 0ne could stop me because they weren’t out there. I think. What gives me a early morning is I want to encourage and build people up. I know that’s my gift.

245
00:27:29.930 –> 00:27:39.830
Shannon Shriver CDO: I know that’s my skill that I need kept developed, and what it developed for it’s it’s B is being and become a legacy.

246
00:27:41.590 –> 00:27:54.970
Shannon Shriver CDO: Everyone has always thought I won’t be married. My parents and I want my children to be better than me. So what kind of legacy am I going to leave for my family?

247
00:27:55.910 –> 00:28:03.800
Shannon Shriver CDO: And I’ve taken a little bit farther. What kind of legacy am I going to have an impact on my children

248
00:28:03.960 –> 00:28:07.600
Shannon Shriver CDO: to leave for their great, my great grandchildren.

249
00:28:09.010 –> 00:28:16.060
Shannon Shriver CDO: and I can’t leave a legacy for them the less i’m focus on accomplishing and using every minute of my time.

250
00:28:16.450 –> 00:28:25.430
Shannon Shriver CDO: Yeah, I am kind of worked with my calendar. My colleagues used to think I scheduled my bathroom breaks on my talent.

251
00:28:25.950 –> 00:28:32.420
Shannon Shriver CDO: I never have I never have they my thought so. There might be a 15 min break that was empty, and that was then used.

252
00:28:33.070 –> 00:28:37.330
Shannon Shriver CDO: But I want to use my time wisely, read the evening in time.

253
00:28:38.160 –> 00:28:46.510
Shannon Shriver CDO: so that I can leave a legacy for my kids. But more importantly. I want. I want someone to be a story to look at my children.

254
00:28:47.620 –> 00:28:53.900
Shannon Shriver CDO: and says they have a such a great people. They have everything together, and knowing what they’re doing and moving forward.

255
00:28:53.990 –> 00:29:00.690
Shannon Shriver CDO: and some of this Well, I wonder who their father was? That would be the greatest compliment I could ever have.

256
00:29:04.430 –> 00:29:16.580
Jennifer Glass: Thank you. So, Shannon. People that have been listening to us for the last. A bit of time might want to know more and connect with you. How can they find out more about you.

257
00:29:16.970 –> 00:29:30.160
Shannon Shriver CDO: I am on my business called Shriver Enterprise, so i’m on Instagram with Shriver enterprise. I’m on Facebook and I’m on Linkedin. Those private the 3 tools

258
00:29:30.190 –> 00:29:32.910
Shannon Shriver CDO: I probably spend most of my time on Linkedin

259
00:29:33.100 –> 00:29:34.500

Shannon Shriver CDO: in my business. How they fit into the professional networking side.

262
00:29:49.050 –> 00:29:50.000
Jennifer Glass: Thank you.

263
00:29:51.400 –> 00:30:05.120
Jennifer Glass: So, Shannon again. Thank you so much for being my guest. I think that this was a really enjoyable conversation, and on behalf of our listeners. I know that we got a lot out of

264
00:30:05.370 –> 00:30:09.470
Jennifer Glass: the information that you imparted to us. So thank you so much.

265
00:30:09.720 –> 00:30:12.690
Shannon Shriver CDO: You’re very welcome. Thank you, Jen: I enjoyed podcast.

Jennifer Glass: life, in your work, life, integration. and blocking out your calendar and paying attention to the community organizations that you participate, and the causes that you believe in

269
00:30:32.060 –> 00:30:43.320
Jennifer Glass: the ideas of the legacy that you want to be leaving for your great grandchildren, like Shannon was saying to have everything blocked out that you are doing the most

Jennifer Glass: based on what it is that you’re trying to do.

272

Jennifer Glass: The more that you can really be focused in those areas, the more that you can have a keen eye on what your end goal is.

273
00:31:09.510 –> 00:31:15.480
Jennifer Glass: so more likely you’re going to understand it and know the meaning of life and business

274
00:31:15.960 –> 00:31:23.370
